About the Album
West, Bruce & Laing's Whatever Turns You On, released in 1973, is the second studio album by the hard-rock power trio formed by guitarist Leslie West, bassist Jack Bruce, and drummer Corky Laing. The group's sound combines heavy guitar riffs, blues-based improvisation, and Jack Bruce's distinctive vocals and bass playing. West's guitar tone and Laing's forceful drumming give the music a raw, direct character, while Bruce's harmonic and rhythmic approach adds a different dimension from a conventional hard-rock trio. The album captures the group's blend of British blues-rock and American heavy guitar music during the early 1970s.
