About the Album
King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King, released in 1969, is a foundational progressive-rock album that combines heavy guitar, Mellotron, jazz-influenced improvisation, and poetic lyrics. “21st Century Schizoid Man” opens with distorted vocals and an intense, complex instrumental passage, while “Epitaph” and “The Court of the Crimson King” use Mellotron and layered arrangements to create a dramatic, almost orchestral atmosphere. Robert Fripp's guitar and the contributions of Ian McDonald, Greg Lake, Michael Giles, and Peter Sinfield give the record a distinctive balance of power and delicacy.
