About the Album
Journey's Infinity, released in 1978, marked a major shift in the band's sound with the arrival of vocalist Steve Perry. The album blends Neal Schon's melodic guitar work and Gregg Rolie's keyboards with a more prominent, soaring lead vocal style, creating a polished sound that helped define Journey's future direction. “Wheel in the Sky” combines a dramatic atmosphere with a strong chorus, while “Lights” offers a more reflective tribute to San Francisco. The arrangements balance hard-rock energy with accessible melodies and carefully layered harmonies. Infinity became a key turning point for the group, bridging its earlier progressive-rock roots and the arena-rock success of the 1980s. It remains a central album in Journey's classic catalog.
