About the Album

Released in 1974, 461 Ocean Boulevard marked Eric Clapton's return to recording after a difficult period, presenting a relaxed blend of blues, rock, and soul. The album includes his widely recognized version of Bob Marley's “I Shot the Sheriff,” which helped introduce reggae-influenced rhythms to a broader rock audience. “Motherless Children” delivers a tougher, blues-based performance, while “Please Be with Me” and “Let It Grow” reveal a more reflective side of Clapton's songwriting and playing. The restrained arrangements give the guitar and vocals room to breathe, creating a warm, unforced atmosphere. 461 Ocean Boulevard is an important entry in Clapton's solo catalog, balancing roots-oriented music with the melodic sensibility that shaped his 1970s work.
