Album Overview

Released in 1980, Autoamerican shows Blondie stretching beyond their punk and new-wave roots into an adventurous mix of pop, disco, reggae, rap, and jazz influences. The album opens with “Europa,” a cinematic instrumental introduction, before moving into the sleek pop of “Live It Up.” Its best-known tracks include “The Tide Is High,” a reggae-influenced cover that became a major hit, and “Rapture,” a pioneering blend of new wave, disco, and early hip-hop that helped bring rap into mainstream pop radio. Elsewhere, “Here’s Looking at You” and “Angels on the Balcony” reveal the band’s atmospheric and experimental side. With Debbie Harry’s distinctive vocals at the center, Autoamerican captures Blondie at a creative peak, unafraid to cross genres while maintaining strong melodies and a stylish, urban sound. This Japanese promotional LP edition is a collectible for fans of Blondie and classic new wave.
