About the Album
Rainbow's Rising, released in 1976, is one of the defining albums of the band's early period with Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Ritchie Blackmore's guitar riffs and Dio's powerful, dramatic voice create a heavy, fantasy-inflected sound, while Tony Carey's keyboards add atmosphere and harmonic depth. “Stargazer” is the album's centerpiece, an expansive epic featuring orchestral textures and a narrative of ambition and downfall. “A Light in the Black” closes the record with a fast, complex performance that highlights the band's instrumental power. Cozy Powell's drumming gives the music a forceful foundation. Rising became highly influential among later heavy-metal musicians and remains a landmark of 1970s hard rock and metal.
