About the Album
Vangelis's L'Apocalypse des animaux, released in 1973, is a soundtrack for the nature documentary series directed by Frédéric Rossif. The music relies on synthesizers, keyboards, and slowly developing melodic themes to create a contemplative atmosphere rather than a conventional song-based structure. “La Petite Fille de la Mer” is one of Vangelis's best-known early compositions, combining a simple melody with spacious electronic textures. Across the album, the arrangements move between quiet, reflective passages and more dramatic musical gestures, responding to the film's images of wildlife and the natural world. The release is an important early example of Vangelis's cinematic electronic style before his later international soundtrack successes.
