About the Album
Rush's Hold Your Fire, released in 1987, explores the band's more atmospheric and synthesizer-rich sound while retaining the precision of its rhythm section and the intricacy of its arrangements. Geddy Lee's keyboards and bass, Alex Lifeson's textured guitar parts, and Neil Peart's detailed drumming create a layered musical landscape. “Time Stand Still,” featuring Aimee Mann on backing vocals, reflects on the desire to hold on to fleeting moments, while “Force Ten” opens the album with shifting rhythms and a strong melodic hook. The lyrics often consider time, individuality, and human behavior. Hold Your Fire is a thoughtful example of Rush's late-1980s period, combining progressive musicianship with an increasingly polished production style.
