About the Album

Rush's 2112, released in 1976, is a landmark progressive-rock album built around a side-long science-fiction suite and a set of shorter songs. The title piece follows an individual discovering music in a society that has suppressed artistic expression, using shifting sections, dramatic narration, and powerful instrumental passages to tell its story. Geddy Lee's high-register vocals and bass, Alex Lifeson's guitar, and Neil Peart's intricate drumming create a distinctive blend of hard rock and complex arrangement. The second side offers more concise songs, including “A Passage to Bangkok” and “The Twilight Zone,” showing the band's ability to balance technical musicianship with strong hooks. 2112 became a turning point in Rush's career and established the group's progressive ambitions on a wider scale.
