Album Overview
Miles Davis at Carnegie Hall documents a 1961 concert pairing Miles Davis with Gil Evans and a large orchestra. The performance explores the meeting of Davis's expressive trumpet playing and Evans's carefully arranged orchestral colors, extending the spacious, sophisticated sound of their earlier collaborations into a live setting. Rather than a conventional small-combo jazz performance, the music unfolds through rich brass and woodwind textures, subtle dynamics, and Davis's unmistakable phrasing. The album is an important document of Davis's orchestral period and will appeal to listeners interested in modern jazz, big-band arrangements, and the artistic partnership between Davis and Evans.
