About the Album

Kiss's Lick It Up, released in 1983, marked a new phase for the band as it appeared without its trademark stage makeup for the first time on a studio album. The record retains Kiss's arena-sized hard-rock sound but uses a more streamlined, contemporary production style. The title track became one of the band's best-known songs of the era, driven by a direct riff and a chant-like chorus, while “Exciter” and “Young and Wasted” showcase the group's heavier side. Paul Stanley's vocals and songwriting remain central, supported by Gene Simmons's bass and the guitar work of Vinnie Vincent. Lick It Up helped reconnect Kiss with a new generation of rock listeners during the early 1980s.
