About the Album
Kiss's Lick It Up, released in 1983, marked the band's first studio album without its trademark stage makeup and helped introduce a new visual identity to audiences. Musically, it retains Kiss's big hard-rock riffs and chant-like choruses while using a streamlined, contemporary production style. The title track became a major hit, while “Exciter” and “Young and Wasted” show the band's heavier, more aggressive side. Paul Stanley's songwriting and vocals are central, with Gene Simmons's bass and Vinnie Vincent's guitar contributing to the album's punchy sound. Lick It Up helped re-establish Kiss during the early 1980s and remains a key release from the band's unmasked era.
