About the Album
Judas Priest's Killing Machine, released in 1978 and titled Hell Bent for Leather in the United States, helped sharpen the band's heavy-metal sound into a more concise, aggressive form. Rob Halford's soaring vocals and the twin guitars of Glenn Tipton and K. K. Downing drive songs such as “Hell Bent for Leather,” “Delivering the Goods,” and “The Green Manalishi.” The album balances fast riffs and forceful rhythms with memorable choruses, while its leather-and-studs image helped define the visual identity of traditional heavy metal. Killing Machine is an important step between the band's early progressive influences and the more streamlined metal sound of the 1980s.
