About the Album
Iron Maiden's Powerslave, released in 1984, is a defining album of the band's classic heavy-metal period. Its songs combine fast, tightly arranged guitar riffs with melodic twin-guitar leads, powerful vocals from Bruce Dickinson, and Steve Harris's distinctive galloping bass lines. “Aces High” opens with urgent, high-speed energy, while “2 Minutes to Midnight” delivers a memorable chorus and a darker lyrical theme. The title track draws on ancient Egyptian imagery, and the closing epic “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” adapts Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem into a long, multi-section metal composition. With its ambitious songwriting and striking visual identity, Powerslave helped cement Iron Maiden's international status and remains a landmark of 1980s heavy metal.
