About the Album
Live in Japan, internationally known as Made in Japan, documents Deep Purple performing in Osaka and Tokyo in August 1972. The double live album showcases the classic Mark II lineup of Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Roger Glover, and Ian Paice, stretching studio songs into intense performances with extended improvisation. “Highway Star,” “Child in Time,” “Smoke on the Water,” “Strange Kind of Woman,” and “Space Truckin'” highlight the group's blend of heavy riffs, virtuosic guitar and keyboard exchanges, and a powerful rhythm section. The live arrangements give the songs extra length and spontaneity while retaining their strong structures. This Japanese Warner P-5066/7W edition is a domestic pressing of one of Deep Purple's most celebrated concert recordings.
