About the Album

Released in 1974, Deep Purple's Burn introduced a new lineup featuring David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, bringing fresh vocal colors and a stronger soul influence to the band's hard-rock foundation. Ritchie Blackmore's guitar and Jon Lord's keyboards continue to drive the arrangements, while Ian Paice's drumming adds power and precision. The title track opens with a dramatic riff and rapid-fire interplay, and “Mistreated” stretches into a bluesy, emotionally charged performance. Hughes's funkier vocal style and Coverdale's blues-rock delivery give the album a distinctive identity compared with earlier Deep Purple records. Burn is a major chapter in the band's history and a compelling example of 1970s hard rock at full intensity.
