About the Album
Yes's Close to the Edge, released in 1972, is one of progressive rock's landmark albums, built around three long compositions that combine intricate playing with expansive musical development. The title suite moves through shifting sections, vocal harmonies, and instrumental passages, while “And You and I” balances acoustic textures with a sweeping, melodic arrangement. “Siberian Khatru” closes the album with intricate guitar and keyboard interplay and a driving rhythmic feel. Jon Anderson's vocals, Steve Howe's guitar, Rick Wakeman's keyboards, Chris Squire's bass, and Bill Bruford's drumming create a highly detailed ensemble sound. Close to the Edge remains a defining example of Yes's most ambitious early-1970s work.
