About the Album

Queen's A Day at the Races, released in 1976, follows the ambitious style of A Night at the Opera while further exploring the band's mix of hard rock, gospel, music hall, and elaborate vocal harmonies. “Somebody to Love” builds around a choir-like vocal arrangement created by the band members themselves, while “Tie Your Mother Down” delivers a powerful guitar riff and direct rock energy. “Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy” adds a theatrical pop contrast, and “The Millionaire Waltz” showcases Queen's ability to move between styles within a single composition. Freddie Mercury's songwriting and Brian May's layered guitar work give the album a distinctive sound. A Day at the Races is a key release from Queen's classic 1970s period.
