About the Album
Iron Maiden's Somewhere in Time, released in 1986, expands the band's established heavy-metal attack with guitar synthesizers and a more futuristic atmosphere. The production adds layers and texture without losing the twin-guitar harmonies, galloping rhythms, and dramatic vocal delivery that define the group. “Wasted Years,” written by Adrian Smith, is one of the album's most direct and memorable songs, while “Stranger in a Strange Land” combines a measured groove with an expressive guitar solo. The longer tracks explore themes of time, alienation, and science-fiction imagery, supported by detailed arrangements and Steve Harris's driving bass. Somewhere in Time is a distinctive chapter in Iron Maiden's catalog, showing the band experimenting with new textures while retaining its compositional ambition and power.
