About the Album
Iron Maiden's Killers, released in 1981, is the band's second studio album and the last to feature original vocalist Paul Di'Anno. Producer Martin Birch gave the record a sharper, more defined sound than the debut, allowing the group's intricate guitar parts and Steve Harris's busy bass playing to stand out. Songs such as “Wrathchild” and “Killers” combine fast, tightly controlled riffs with dark storytelling, while “Purgatory” highlights the band's speed and melodic guitar interplay. Adrian Smith joined the group during the album's development, contributing to the band's evolving two-guitar identity. Killers captures Iron Maiden moving from its early club-era sound toward the more expansive, ambitious heavy metal that would define its next phase.
