About the Album
Kiss's Destroyer, released in 1976, expanded the band's hard-rock sound with more elaborate arrangements and production by Bob Ezrin. The album balances theatrical rock anthems with darker, more atmospheric material. “Detroit Rock City” opens with a cinematic sequence before launching into a powerful riff, while “Shout It Out Loud” delivers the kind of communal chorus that became central to Kiss's live shows. “Beth,” featuring Peter Criss on vocals, offers a striking contrast as a string-arranged ballad, and “God of Thunder” helped shape the band's dramatic stage image. Destroyer was a major step in Kiss's evolution from a club act into a large-scale rock phenomenon, combining memorable songs with a more ambitious studio approach.
