About the Album
The Allman Brothers Band's Brothers and Sisters (1973) was a major commercial breakthrough and the first studio album the group made entirely without founding guitarist Duane Allman. Dickey Betts's country-influenced guitar and songwriting take a prominent role, while pianist Chuck Leavell adds a distinctive melodic presence. “Ramblin' Man” became one of the band's biggest hits, and the instrumental “Jessica” showcases the group's fluid blend of Southern rock, jazz, and country. “Wasted Words” and “Southbound” retain the blues-based drive of earlier work. The album balances instrumental interplay with concise songs and helped establish the group as a leading American rock act of the 1970s.
