About the Album
Styx's Paradise Theatre, released in 1981, is a concept album inspired by the rise and decline of a fictional Chicago theater, using that setting to reflect on changing times and American culture. The songs move between polished arena rock, keyboard-led melodies, and dramatic multi-part arrangements. “The Best of Times” is an uplifting ballad, while “Too Much Time on My Hands” pairs a catchy chorus with a more restless perspective. The album's sequencing and recurring theatrical themes give it a unified character, but its individual songs are also built for strong hooks and big performances. Paradise Theatre became one of Styx's most successful releases and captures the band's balance of progressive ambition and accessible early-1980s rock.
