About the Album
Sammy Hagar's I Never Said Goodbye, released in 1987, is notable as his final solo studio album before joining Van Halen. The record blends melodic hard rock with polished late-1980s production, strong choruses, and Hagar's powerful, direct vocal style. “Give to Live” became one of the album's best-known tracks, pairing an uplifting message with a broad, arena-ready arrangement. The songs showcase Hagar's ability to balance guitar-driven energy with accessible hooks, while the production emphasizes clean separation between the rhythm section, guitars, and vocals. I Never Said Goodbye also has a distinctive place in his discography because it was recorded during the period when his career was moving toward one of the biggest transitions in his professional life.
