About the Album
Released in 1982, The Number of the Beast was Iron Maiden's first album with vocalist Bruce Dickinson and a major breakthrough in the band's international profile. Dickinson's wide vocal range adds drama and power to Steve Harris's tightly arranged songs, supported by the twin guitars of Dave Murray and Adrian Smith and Clive Burr's driving drumming. The title track became one of heavy metal's most recognizable anthems, while “Run to the Hills” combines a fast, memorable riff with lyrics about colonial violence. “Hallowed Be Thy Name” builds into an expansive, multi-section finale that remains a concert favorite. The album's blend of melodic guitar work, historical themes, and theatrical vocals helped define Iron Maiden's classic sound.
