About the Album
Freddie Mercury's Mr. Bad Guy, released in 1985, was the Queen frontman's first solo studio album. It gives him space to explore dance-pop, disco, funk, and electronic production beyond Queen's group sound, while his expressive voice remains the album's central feature. “I Was Born to Love You” pairs an energetic dance rhythm with a strong melodic hook, while “Living on My Own” later became one of the album's best-known songs through a remix. The arrangements are polished and synth-driven, reflecting the mid-1980s club sound, but Mercury's dramatic phrasing and melodic instincts keep the music distinctive. Mr. Bad Guy offers a revealing view of Mercury's individual musical interests during Queen's mid-1980s peak.
