About the Album
Electric Light Orchestra's Discovery, released in 1979, combines Jeff Lynne's carefully layered pop songwriting with orchestral textures, synthesizers, and a dance-oriented rhythm. The album includes “Don't Bring Me Down,” a driving rock hit, alongside the string-rich “Shine a Little Love” and the disco-influenced “Last Train to London.” ELO's distinctive blend of Beatles-inspired melodies, studio precision, and classical flourishes gives the record a polished, immediately recognizable sound. By the late 1970s, Lynne was increasingly shaping the band around concise pop songs while retaining its trademark arrangements. Discovery became one of ELO's most commercially successful albums and captures the group at the height of its international popularity.
