About the Album
The Eagles' On the Border, released in 1974, marks a transition from the band's country-rock beginnings toward the more electric sound that would define its later success. The album includes “Already Gone,” a driving rock song, and “Best of My Love,” a reflective ballad that became the group's first US number-one single. “James Dean” adds a brisk, guitar-led energy, while the harmonies and carefully arranged guitars remain central throughout. The album was recorded during a period of lineup and production changes, helping the Eagles broaden their sound without losing their melodic strengths. On the Border is an important step between the band's early country-rock identity and the polished rock of One of These Nights and Hotel California.
