About the Album
Dire Straits' Communiqué, released in 1979, is the band's second studio album and develops the understated, guitar-led sound of its debut. Mark Knopfler's relaxed vocals and fluid fingerstyle guitar playing sit within arrangements that favor space, groove, and carefully shaped melodies rather than heavy production. “Lady Writer” is one of the album's best-known tracks, driven by a crisp rhythm and a memorable guitar line, while “Once Upon a Time in the West” opens with a spacious, cinematic feel.
