About the Album
The Alan Parsons Project's The Turn of a Friendly Card, released in 1980, is a concept album exploring chance, risk, and the lure of gambling. The record combines progressive-rock arrangements with polished pop songwriting, layered vocals, synthesizers, and carefully constructed studio textures. “Games People Play” and “Time” became among the project's best-known songs, while the multi-part title suite develops the album's theme through recurring musical ideas. Eric Woolfson's songwriting and Alan Parsons's production give the music a cinematic, precise quality, balancing catchy melodies with elaborate arrangements. The Turn of a Friendly Card is a defining release in the project's early-1980s catalog.
