About the Album
Santana's Caravanserai, released in 1972, marks a more exploratory phase in the band's music, moving toward jazz fusion and extended instrumental compositions. Carlos Santana's guitar is surrounded by layered percussion, keyboards, bass, and drums, creating a spacious sound that emphasizes mood and ensemble interplay. Tracks such as “Song of the Wind” and “All the Love of the Universe” balance lyrical melodies with improvisational passages, while the album's sequence flows more like a continuous musical journey than a collection of radio singles. The record reflects Santana's growing interest in jazz and spiritual themes, and it remains one of the group's most adventurous early albums.
