About the Album
Rainbow's Straight Between the Eyes, released in 1982, continues the band's move toward a more melodic, radio-friendly hard-rock sound. Joe Lynn Turner's smooth, powerful vocals sit alongside Ritchie Blackmore's guitar work, with keyboards and polished production giving the songs a broad arena-rock feel. “Stone Cold” became a notable single, balancing a strong melody with a restrained, atmospheric arrangement, while “Death Alley Driver” offers a faster, riff-driven contrast. The album retains Rainbow's dramatic sense of melody but favors concise songs over the more elaborate fantasy-oriented compositions of the Dio era. It is a representative release from the band's early-1980s lineup and a useful snapshot of melodic hard rock from the period.
