About the Album
John Williams's original soundtrack to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, released in 1982, uses orchestral themes to support Steven Spielberg's story of friendship between a boy and an alien visitor. Williams combines sweeping strings, woodwinds, brass, and memorable melodic motifs to create music that moves between wonder, warmth, suspense, and adventure. The score's climactic flying sequence is especially celebrated for the way the orchestra builds emotional momentum and a sense of freedom. Rather than relying on pop songs, the soundtrack develops recurring themes that follow the characters and their emotional journey. This Japanese MCA LP presents Williams's cinematic score for one of the most beloved films of the early 1980s.
