About the Album
Released in 1983, David Bowie's Let's Dance brought him to a much wider pop audience through its combination of dance rhythms, polished production, and strong songwriting. Produced by Bowie with Nile Rodgers, the album blends rock, funk, and dance-pop while retaining Bowie's distinctive vocal phrasing and lyrical ambiguity. The title track became a major international hit, while “Modern Love” pairs an energetic rhythm with a memorable chorus. “China Girl,” reworked from an earlier Bowie composition, adds a sleek pop arrangement to a song with a more complicated emotional tone. Guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan contributes expressive blues-rock playing that contrasts with the album's precise rhythmic framework. Let's Dance is a defining release of Bowie's 1980s period and a key moment in his commercial success.
